The hours for P.S. 6X After-School Programs may vary dependent upon the regular school day schedule and program hours allotted.

For each After-School Program, detailed information will be provided under separate cover. Signed parent consent forms must be submitted prior to a student’s participation in a program. These consent forms will be kept on file for the duration of the program.

All students must have a current physical on file in order to participate in a program.

Moving From a Vision to a Reality

Educational Quote:

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Why Afterschool:

As stated by the Department of Education “After-school programs give students opportunities to learn skills, explore their interests, and discover new things”.

Goal:

Our staff is committed to meeting the needs of the school and in so doing will strive to lower the number of students with level ones. We will focus on supporting students in Reading and Mathematics using engaging materials that will peak and maintain their interest. These are not goals focused only on making great grades but creating a community of students who enjoy reading and solving mathematical problems through discussions, games and technology.

Class Setup:

Classes will be no larger than fifteen (15) students where teachers will be able to give them individual attention. Our beliefs are children learn best in small groups with adults who know them well.

Educational Quote:

“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.”

Why Afterschool:

Given the number of difficulties facing ELL students and the steady increase in this population, schools need additional support to meet their needs and ensure that they keep up with their classmates. The ENL Academy offers a host of academic support that help English language learners thrive while in school.

Goal:

Our goal is that all ELL students who participate in the ENL Academy see academic improvements, performed better on the NYSESLAT and all NYS Examinations and are more likely to improve their English proficient. This goal will be achieved by using a mix of learning approaches and ENL scaffolds to build the students’ literacy skills.

The ENL Academy provides ELL students additional time to build their literacy skills in an environment that offers individualized support, creates a sense of community, embraces students’ culture, and provides integral services to care for students’ and their families’ overall wellbeing.

Class Setup:

Classes would be set up based on the students’ levels of language proficiency and their reading levels. Our beliefs are that students learn best using meaningful and appropriate scaffolds to help them learn best.
